Producteev: How did I come up with this idea?

July 16, 2008 · 5 Comments

Well, like 90% of you, I’ve tried a lot of Productivity, Tasks, Project Management, ToDo lists applications during my various jobs.

I’m talking about apps like Basecamp, Quickbase, Zoho Projects, RememberTheMilk, and others, many others. Right, I didn’t pick the less-populated market :) .

I’ve been disappointed by pretty much 90% of them, and for the 10% remaining, they were great, but they missed basic features.

Why are they disappointing?

- Too Expensive : not less than 30$ (per project or per user) a month for a good project management application.

- Very complicated : Easy to use when you’re an engineer, but if you’re not one, the interface is usually boring and not user-friendly. Users don’t stick to it, and don’t use it more than a few weeks to collaborate with their colleagues, they quit.

- Web 2.0 : Those players hardly ever took into account the new standards set by the Web2.0 success stories : New type of technologies, Social Features, New kinds of interfaces.

See, those are the 3 main reasons that got me launch Producteev, with all of this in mind. I am convinced that there is space for a new disruptive player, that sets new standards for online business apps.

I think we solved a lot of those problems quoted above, and imagined a very simple and user-friendly Productivity application that will help you significantly : organize your work/projects and set priorities, have access and update your dashboard from anywhere, collaborate with your colleagues in a very smart/intuitive way, report to your boss or have your employees organize their reporting needs.

Also, what I like about this market is the fact that it’s not “under the radar”, meaning not a lot of Entrepreneurs are getting into it, they will prefer to launch a mass market service, since it has a wider target than the BtoB channel. I believe there is still a lot to do thanks to the SaaS trend emerging. With a great product, a great interface, and a great pool of startups using it, it can take off rapidly.

I know that some of you are waiting for Private Beta invitations, but let’s make the bride as pretty as possible for your eyes, I think it’s worth the wait! For all the others, feel free to request an invitation code on Producteev.com
